Are transmission problems common?

Hello,

I'm considering buying a new Rogue, but someone told me that the Rogue has a history of transmission problems. Can you please tell me if this is the case- i.e. more so than any average?

Thanks,
Mike

I would say no. Also take into account that all Nissna CVT equipped vehicles have a 120,000 mile transmission warranty.

Can they back that up with any stastistics or facts? Looking at CarComplaints.com you'll find under the Top 20 Most Often-Reported Complaints, Honda has four vehicles and Ford has three vehicles with transmission problems. You can research any vehicle and find problems, but what counts is if the manufacturer stands behind thier product with a solid warranty. Nissan does.

IMHO, there seemed to be some transmission issues with the first two years of the Rogue's intro, BUT these have been addressed. Frankly any new model will have kinks that need ironing out. Let's not forget, the Rogue transmission is a CVT, and is a completely different experience from a standard tranny. Frankly it's not everyone's cup of tea. Do take one for a good test spin, or see if you can rent one for a few days from a car rental company.

these CVT's got a bad rap by weekend mechanics who have no idea how a CVT works, and started making fuss about it.

things that this transmission does while in normal operation would be considered critical death to standard transmission = thus creating a fury of complaints from people who are not skilled enough to understand the difference.

Agreed. The only bad rap I've heard against CVT's is that they can't take a lot of high power/torque. I know that the Dodge Calibers had some issues early on too, but are ok now.

I have no issue with mine. I drive fairly modestly, only jumping on the gas when necessary to merge or to dust off some retromingent driver, which happens now and then.

I liked the "AutoStick" feature of the Caliber and wish they had retained the similar feature they had on the Rogues.
