2008 Roque stuck in park

Anyone have this problem, just started car would just get stuck in park then finally release. Now it will not come out of park unless I use the shift lock release button. Taking it to dealer but would like to know if anyone has had this problem and what it was?

500 dollars later

Well here is what was done so far, they 1st replaced the shift lock condenser, that lasted 3 days then locked in park again, then the dealer said it is the shifter itself that is bad, replaced that. No problems yet going on 2nd week. Called Nissan corporate to discuss why at 40,000 miles I had to replace the shifter, of course no reponse, no call backs.
Net is full of problems with 08 Rogue's, if something happens again I'm going to trade it in for something other than a Nissan.

I went through this twice. The first time, they replaced my shift switch and the second they replaced the entire unit. Now, my transmission is going. FANTASTIC!

I am having this same problem now - have 103k miles. the guy that does our oil changes said that nissan has acknowledged transmission problems and has an extended warranty on these up to 120k miles. have you heard anything about this or did you have to pay for the repairs?

yes nissan has extended the warranty to 120,000miles/10years on drive-train. but that will not cover the shifter.
the shifter is not connected to the transmission by any solid connection. all the shifter is, is a remote control with P-R-N-D options.

what your problem is, is either the whole Shift Assembly(This part is around $500!) or Brake Shift Solenoid has gone bad. (or something in the middle is not working right)
If it is the Brake Shift Solenoid its that module that you hear clicking in the Shift Assembly when you press the brake pedal to unlock the shifter and being able to move it from park -> into reverse or drive.

what i suggest is on the Rogue there is a access point on your console just forward of the shifter- pop the little cap and insert your key- this unlocks and bypasses your failed solenoid. THIS WAY YOU CAN AT LEAST GET HOME.

But before you go to the dealer is have someone press your brakes, and see if the lights light up. it might be the button/switch immediately at the brake pedal that's not working right and not sending the signal to the Brake Shift Solenoid/Shift Assembly.
Maybe switch out the switches that are right above the brake pedal that activates anything when you press the brakes. its worth a shot.
