Since it happens mostly after the car has been parked for several hours he suggested that I drop it off one evening so that they can check it the following morning.
Since I'm not having any strange noises driving I'm thinking my issue may just be the sound the VDC makes when it does its' self test when you first start it up. And after doing plenty of reading about the CVT, the other things that I thought were "wrong" are actually the way it's supposed to work. So, bottom line, I'm going to stop worrying about it and enjoy my Rogue. If the tranny fails, well, I'll deal with it at that point.

I did have a nice surprise though this morning. My husband had ordered the rear spoiler for me so that was installed this morning too! Looks really good.
Good for you! That's what the warrenty is for so drive it like you stole it for 60,000 miles and if it doesn't die I guess it was okay.

I went through the same thing with my 04 Nissan Titan. First there was a rear end scare where everyone on the net was screaming about the differential on the Titan being too small and Nissan didn't care. Then a transmission scare and everyone on the net was saying the trannys had a software problem causing them to die for no reason and Nissan didn't care. Then there was a life threatening front end shimmy condition that everyone on the net said was from brake rotors that were too small for a 1/2 ton truck and Nissan didn't care. The funny thing about it all is I now have over 123,000 miles on the truck with the same tranny, rear end and I never once have had a braking problem and the 2 times i did go to the dealership they treated me great...................go figure?

That's exactly what I plan on doing!!

And the situation with the Titan, same with me and the Xterra I had. It was still going strong at 117,000 miles and no major repairs.

I currently have an 03 Saturn Vue and just had to have the cvt replaced due to premature failure. You all probably know about the history of Saturn Vti's. Was thinking of getting a Rogue, but now this has me concerned. Are these Nissan cvt problems becoming more frequent?

I've been trying to figure out the prevalence of the
problem for several months now......so far, my
verdict is that the tranny problem happened on a
very small percentage of the AWD Rogues....which
may indicate that a bad "batch" of trannys made
it in to the production line at some point in time?
I have 5000mi on mine and all is well, as are the
very large majority of all Rogue AWD owners. So,
I believe, at this point in time, that you would not
be purchasing one that had the problem.....I think
that the affected ones are already out in the
public domain.
I must admit, the biggest problem I've had with
mine is the worrying about getting the problem,
which is a self-inflicted pain in the butt! Other
than this self-infliction, the car has performed
flawlessly to this day.....
So....your call....

well....its happened....

Check this "repost" from the other forum...its
actually goes against the odds of probability...read
my reason why comment at the bottom....here's
the post:

"So I purchased my Rouge in early April '08, noticed the rattle shortly after, didn't think much of it, till mid July when the noise got pretty bad.
Dealership took it in and ordered new transfer case and transmission. Finally had that installed September 4th. No sounds!!! Yay!!!

So i was driving home the other night, was slowing down, and now, the sound! It is faint right now, but it is there!. Called the dealership, and they confirmed that it would happen again as Nissan hasn't come out with a fix. So now i am stuck with another faulty transmission.

Has anyone heard any updates?"

------------------------------------------------
......illogical.....Since there are so very few people
thats had/have this transmission rattle compared
to the total number of AWD's sold, the chances of
not only having the problem originally, but also, at
this point in time, having the tranny replaced with
a new tranny only to have the same problem
return again....the odds of that sure seem like
they would be astronomical! go figure.....talk
about bad luck!

Tranny

OK guys I joined this group because I have that same tranny problem. It's a knocking noise in the low RPM range. I haven't brought mine in yet but will soon. I kinda shrugged it off at first, but now I hear it every morning when I leave for work.

P.S I drive the 08 AWD Rogue SL

I wish someone would record the sound and post it up so everyone could get an Idea of what to listen for? Surely someone has a laptop or video camera out there?

I'd also like to see a copy of the work order for a swap so we can see what all is being replaced?

Got a email from the local Nissan dealership. Nissan has a limited upgraded Transmission they have just brought out. My dealership has ordered me one, but with the demand it might be back ordered.

Hey IDG,

I'm a member on the other forum and have been discussing this problem at length, as I have a FWD Rogue that has the problem at very low speeds - not as bad as some of the AWD owners but I have low mileage and its disturbing nonetheless.

So I want to ask for more info on the "upgraded transmission" that Nissan is going to be providing to you. Did you get any more info on this? This sounds strange to me, what exactly would be "upgraded" about this tranny relative to the trans that the rest of us have?

Squid, on the other forum one member posted a sound clip of the noise, but I don't find it very useful as the sound is typically not very loud and when recording it the other sounds such as the engine get in the way. In person, you know if you've got the noise, there is no reason for someone to play a recording of the sound. It is a grinding rattle sound that a vehicle should not make. In my case, it lasts only a very brief half second when I'm declerating, just before coming to a stop around 10km/hr, and if I coast at 10km/hr and gently press on/off the throttle it occurs repeatedly, and the sound is exactly as I've described "grinding rattle", similar to the sound of shaking rocks in an empty pop can.

Well I have to disagree with you on this. How do you or anyone else know what a Nissan Rogue CVT should sound like since it is a new model and tranny? A great example is my 1 ton diesel dodge. If you'd never been around a diesel before you would think the engine is shot because it rattles and when I'm stopped and put it in reverse or drive the brakes groan which would make you think the brakes have a problem but in fact it's just all the torque and LSD rear end combo. My Nissan Titan with the twin cams also makes a top end noise that sounds like a lack of lubrication (Tapping sound at idle which is horrifying stopped at a drive thru) and there have been lots of owners in the beginning that thought their engine was bad so to try and dismiss me or anyone else looking for more information makes me wonder why? I've still not talked to a Rogue owner in person who has a problem with their Rogue.

Maybe you guys should stay off that other site since that seems to be where the problem is and it's contagious?
