I am also from Michingan; did you buy it at Boyland/Victory? They had brush me off the two times that I've brought it up to their attention.

| ...for the few of you out there that have the tranny noise problem....the following was posted on the other forum and validates what I said before that if Nissan doesn't know whats causing the problem, you would run the risk that the new tranny could develope the same problem again. Here is that posting: "Our AWD has the dreaded tranny issue...Fortunately our dealer (Harrisonburg Nissan) has been absolutely fantastic about the matter. They are offering to order a new tranny and install, but say that Nissan, while "aware" of the problem", can not guarantee that the new tranny will solve the problem. So, do I go ahead and get a new tranny while the offer stands, or wait until Nissan becomes "aware" of a definitive solution?" I wonder how long it will take for the Nissan engineers to figure this one out??

| Are the Trannys even built by Nissan?

| Now that's a good question.....which brings up the next question.....if not, has Nissan turned it over to the trannys builder?....surely they have by now?? But, you'd think if Nissan had referred it to the trannys builder, that before they would replace any of the trannys, (since none have totally failed yet), Nissan would be telling the folks to hang tight until this builder of the trannys comes up with the cause and the fix. Who knows??? I can only assume at this point that since Nissan is not telling the affected customers to hang tight, that Nissan IS the builder of the trannys??....total guess here....

| Mistergib; I believe the transmissions are built by the supplier Jatco. They have supplier all the CVT's for Nissan vehicles, including the Altima, Maxima and possibly the Rogue. Or maybe not and that is the issue, a new CVT transmission supplier working out the bugs... ![]()

| It would seem that the transmission is probably built by Jatco, a Nissan company. This is an exerpt of what I found in Wikipedia. "The modern JATCO was formed in October 1999 after Nissan spun their AT/CVT (automatic transmission/continuously variable transmission) production into a company called TransTechnology, Ltd. The combined company settled on JATCO Ltd. in April, 2002. Mitsubishi Motors followed Nissan's lead, spinning off Diamondmatic in April 2002, only to have this acquired by Jatco and integrated one year later. Nissan, and thus Jatco, had long been supplying Nissan, Mazda, Subaru, Isuzu, Suzuki, BMW, Volkswagen, and Land Rover. However, once it was independent, Jatco quickly began supplying other automakers: December 1999 — Hyundai Motor Company January 2001 — Jaguar Cars December 2001 — London Taxis International January 2002 — Ford Europe April 2002 — Renault Samsung Motors April 2002 — Ford Lio Ho April 2004 — Changan Ford December 2005 — DaimlerChrysler Today, products from nearly every auto maker have used Jatco transmissions, with the notable exceptions of Honda Motor Company, who makes their own transmissions, and Toyota Motor Company, who has always used transmissions made by Aisin, a subsidiary of Toyota." |

| I kind of thought that since the Tranny in my Titan is a Jatco and the rear diff is a Dana. So the dealership is pulling the offending trannys and shipping them to Jatco for further testing and dissection.

| Latest posting from other forum may be good news... OK, for all of you out there with the tranny problem and for those of us without it, but are crossing our fingers, here is the latest posting from the other forum.....sounds like good news?? Here it is: "Hi everyone, Just an update on my Rogue. I sent a certified letter to Nissan giving them their final repair attempt under the lemon law and a week later got a letter back by FedEx telling me they would like to schedule an appt for me to meet with a Nissan rep at my dealership. Well, yesterday morning I met with this rep and we went for a ride. After I drove it and he heard the "rattle" (which has made my ride to/from work excruciating not to mention not wanting to drive it anywhere else) he drove it himself and knew exactly how to duplicate this noise. He knew it was the CVT transmission. He told me that "supposedly" there was a bad batch of transmissions and early on they were replacing bad with bad and the noise came back. He said Nissan has been diligently working on a fix. He said he had a phone conference with Nissan the other day and they feel confident that as of now, replacing the transmission is the solution. So, they are ordering me a transmission. God, I hope this is the solution because I can't take this anymore! The service manager told me that their hands were tied because Nissan was not giving them the authorization to replace my transmission before. I will update again as soon as I get my Rogue back. In the meantime, anyone that still has this rattle needs to call their dealer, send a letter to Nissan, whatever it takes to get them moving. This has been like a part time job for me. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

| Bought my Rogue in 2/08. I've had that "noise" (the muffled dragging chain description was perfect!) for a VERY long time. Probably since 1000 mi or so. I now have 10K and finally found the time to take it in. Dealer just called...they're planning on replacing the tranny. I said "WHAT?!?". Headed right over to see if there was a Nissan Rogue forum and found this interesting thread. Yes, mine is an SL AWD. Incidentally, I've had an increasingly difficult time starting the engine and there's a problem with my fuel pump, too. That's all I know at this point. WAH!! I miss my manual transmission Maxima!!!!!!! Traded it for the Rogue. |

| Well, to update my situation, I went to my dealership today. I had to postpone last week's appointment. Anyway, I got the "can't duplicate" and everything else checked out ok. The tech did go out with me then but of course, the tranny didn't make any strange noises. Since it happens mostly after the car has been parked for several hours he suggested that I drop it off one evening so that they can check it the following morning. Since I'm not having any strange noises driving I'm thinking my issue may just be the sound the VDC makes when it does its' self test when you first start it up. And after doing plenty of reading about the CVT, the other things that I thought were "wrong" are actually the way it's supposed to work. So, bottom line, I'm going to stop worrying about it and enjoy my Rogue. If the tranny fails, well, I'll deal with it at that point. I did have a nice surprise though this morning. My husband had ordered the rear spoiler for me so that was installed this morning too! Looks really good. |
