Another possible twist to the tranny problems...???

...as if we weren't sick enough of this subject,
here is an added twist......

Prior to this post, I had not had any of the noises
coming from my tranny...3700 mi on my Rogue.
Here is just one of the posts on this topic from
the other forum....

"This is the situation I have with the 3 montyhs old Rogue.
Almost every time, when the car is backing up and the
steering wheal turns at the same time, there is a loud "pop"
sound coming from a transmission. I went to the dealer for
check up, and he told me it is common problem with some
transmition belt. The dealer also says they believe it will be
recalled to fix this problem. Anyone have the same problem? "

Sorry to say, now I have to answer yes to this
problem, it happened to my wife when leaving
work. I don't know if this is related to the
"tranny rattling" problem that others have been
having, or if it will develop in to that problem?? So
far, this too is only on the AWD's. I'm just totally
sick of this subject!

Anybody on this forum experienced this one??

Latest post...

Latest post from the other forum....

Quote: "UGH!! OK..here is the latest! Now they have decided NOT to replace the transmission. Suddenly it has changed from.."Nissan has identifed the issue and the transmissons that they are putting in the cars have been fixed"..to.."we can't put a new transmission in the car because the new transmissions are starting to have the same issue"!!!! My dealer stated Nissan is aware of this and they are working to identify and fix. No TSB yet..because they don't know what in the transmission to fix!!! UGH!!! Still they are assuring me it is safe to drive because there haven't been any failures.....yet. Oh that just gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling. I am calling Nissan today and also calling the NYS Attorney Generals Office to see what if anything can be done. I know the Lemon Law state that there must be 4 attempts to fix the problem, but in our case there is NO fix..so..where does that leave us? I really do not feel safe driving this car at 65 miles an hour with an 18 wheeler behind me..the what if's are way too scary."

...oh...hum...

Well...Looks like I am really glad I joined this forum I have noticed the popping when backing out of a parking space pretty much since day one. I have just been assuming it was because I wasn't used to driving an SUV and kept cutting the wheel too hard. I guess not. Also, I DON'T have AWD, I have a 2WD S model. I guess I will be calling my dealer today and add my name to the list of people with the tranny noise.

Hi, Welcome to the forum.

The popping at start (go forward or backward) seems to be normal. It is a self test of the system.

The tranny problem some have (only AWDs for now) appears first at slow speed and it is a rattle sound, not a pop. For the unlucky ones who cannot have their dealer change it, it is getting louder and louder and keep the noise even at higher speed.

From what you define, you seem to be fine (and you have a FWD model).

Check this latest tidbit...

Latest post.......

"Here is a quick one for you, My SERVIC ENGINE SOON light came on yesterday driving home nothing happened it just came on.
Went to dealer yesterday, got rental car from them, they called me and told me that the light was nothing special just a transmission sensor, they ordered the part and they are going to replace it.

I get a call the next day saying they got the part but when the dropped the transmission to put in the part they found losts of metal shavings and BLACK trans fluid in the pan.

The service manager got on the phone with Nissan about this, and in about one hour, i got another call back saying they have been authorized to replace my transfer case and my transmission to correct this issue.
THE SERVICE MANAGER said the guy from nissan he talked to on the nissan engineers hotline, his words, said that they know the transmissions are faulty and they are replacing all of them as they come in for service.
I got my Rogue serviced at GERALD NISSAN in NAPERVILLE,IL"

This guy had 4458 miles on his Rogue when this
sensor light came on.
Is this considered progress in Nissan finally
recognizing the tranny problem?? From the sound
of this post, it would be a definite possibilty of
complete failure of the tranny if not fixed immediately.
.....sure love having all this confidence in my Rogue!

Very good question Squid....strange isn't it? I
don't have an answer for that one?? I don't know
but maybe, at this point in time, there are more
Rogue owners over there, and therefore a larger
sampling?? Their tranny problems do seem to cover
a large geographical area, both Canada and USA.
I KNOW, its a forum specific problem...I'm dropping
my membership in that sucker right now!!!!!!!(lol)
I actually only go there for the status update on this
problem....to see if/when/what Nissan does.

And....I now have 4k miles on mine, still no tranny
problem here.

Yeah, I keep waiting for our first new member who joins because they are having tranny problems. I keep asking people I see if they have had any problems with their Rogue and so far I haven't met one yet who has. (By the way did you look at the color of your Tranny Fluid just out of curiosity?)

On a side note I'm seeing a boatload of Rogues around here and man are they sharp looking going down the road.

...nah, I haven't looked at my tranny fluid yet,
there's part of me that doesn't want to...afraid of
what I might see maybe...I'll check it one of these
days.
