I just got back from the dealer. They did the steering and the CVT recalls, but the TPMS nuts recall was not listed for my vehicle, even though it is a 2008 and I live in Michingan (road salt capital of the world, we have our own salt mines!)
However, I am pleased to announce that the CVT TCM/ECM programming was done and I am happy to report that it is the real deal!

I tested the vehicle in the nornal situations that will produce a rattle: parking lot driving around 20 MPH and slowing down at stoplights without pressing the brake pedal... and NO rattle.

I even feel that the CVT is working better at low speeds - 20 to 40 MPH. It also seems that the engine RPM's are holding higher around 1300 - 1400 RPM when you decelerate. And maybe that was the fix. You automotive geeks may be able to understand why it this change eliminates the rattle. So after all those replaced CVT's ( and replaced and replaced ), now we have the real fix!

tranny noises

i have a 2008 and have those noises also - took it to the dealership and they ordered a new tranny for it, however, when we took the car to have it replaced they informed us that Nissan said not to replace it, that it is a fixable problem and that they are working on a solution.
i drive 25 minutes each way on the interstate 5 nights a week (graveyard shift) and it worries me that something is going to "fall out" while i'm doing 70 on the road at night.

My tranny has not made any of those nasty noises as yet, and my wife
has now put 12k miles on the clock. I did get the letter from Nissan for
me to take ours in and have the tranny fluid checked, and re-program the
tranny. This is the same letter that increased out tranny warranty to
100k miles....so just maybe, our tranny will be fine for the duration....and
maybe the re-program of the tranny would fix your noise problem??

Annoyed to the Max With Nissan

Hey!

My girlfriends 2009 Nissan Rouge AWD is having the EXACT same problem you are describing. We when we first heard the sound back in May, We took it to the dealer to get it checked out.. of course they told us they " cannot reproduce the sound" which seems to be the common response that everyone on this site is posting. Then they told us to come back when its more evident.... so this we did. A month later we returned to the same dealer ( Did i mention we drove 600km! to do this again because there is no Nissan dealership in our town ) and after a day of holding the car, they said .. YUP we hear it BUT we cant fix it sorry, Nissan Canada is "investigating" the problem and until then we deem the car safe to drive....BUT they refuse to sign a document stating that yes you can take you car which has a transmission problem on a highway at 100km and hr and feel safe that the transmission will not fail on you and you end up locking a wheel and possibly endangering you or the people you love!......UMMM excuse me ? how can you.. as a dealership with "certified mechanics " make such a claim and not even have the gall to back it up with documentation!

We have currently PARKED our Nissan because we cannot TRUST this car, we have written a formal complaint to Nissan are are expecting IMMEDIATE response to this issue. If not we have no problem taking this to the media and exploiting that this company is allowing for DEFECT cars to be driven on the road...

If anyone else has this problem I suggest you write a letter directly to Nissan Canada so that we can all get our car fixed. We cant even stand the obnoxious rattling and grinding that the car is doing. Something is WRONG!

Finally got our Rogue back. The replacement tranny was bad as well, so we're on our 3rd tranny and our car only has 6500 miles on it. It was driving nice and quiet, so we took the car on some errands and as we were driving home it started making weird sounds again. Looks like we'll be getting a 4th tranny installed soon, ugh...

I talked to the dealership that we took our rouge too. They told me that Nissan Canada is notifying all dealers to stop replacing the transmissions as this is not the solution to the problem (no kidding) and that it is a fixable problem and the they are working on some kinda fix...but it seems like alot of people are being told that it is "fixable" then why the heck dont they FIX IT. We are going to be placing a complaint with the Vehicle commission . this is not right at all

Hmmnnn...several of the consumer magazines say that Nissan is the manufacturer that has gotten the CVT right. I wonder.

On a related note, we took our 2010 Rogue for vacation in Maine. Over 2000 miles with lots of high speed and dirt road driving and while the CVT didn't make any funny noises, a few times it seemed to not want to shift into a drive gear (or whatever the CVT equivalent is). It always seemed to correct soon after however. I am waiting for my first oil change to mention it to the dealer.

Anyone experience a similar issue?
