Nobody will be able to confirm you this since none of us work at Nissan Headquarters.

But yes, the consensus is that 2009 models are not as much prone to this problem as the 2008 models.
For the 2008 models, most who had the problem had the AWD version, but some FWD had also the problem.

No car model, Nissan, Honda or other manufacturers, will be trouble free. To put some perspective to this CVT problem, less than 1% of Rogue had this problem.

Thanks for the quick response. I don't expect every car to be 100% defect-free and know that there is always going to be a car once in a while that has some sort of issue. What I didn't want to be doing is buying a car with a known defect that still exists. It's hard to get a handle on how often it occurred so it's good to know it was in less than 1% of the cars. Thanks so much for the info. It's really appreciated.

Hi everyone,

We just bought a 2008 rogue SL FWD,19000 miles. We only drove it for a few miles before buying it (from a dealer, the car was certified by Nissan). Right after purchasing it, we started hearing a so far faint rattling noise that last for maybe 1 to 2 seconds when we accelerate at very low speed. We believe that we have the same transmission issue that was often reported.

Is there more people who, like Kerrton, have had their transmission changed for the apparently new '09 model and did it solve the problem so far? Do you know whether Nissan now systematically changes the transmission for the '09 model, or do they still try to replace with '08 transmissions which are apparently more likely to be defective?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

2008 rogue awd tranny failure

after being told several times that the noise was no big deal, not serious or not a safety issue....my transmission failed in a major intersection in Nashville, tn. the result was a 2 broken arms, broken jaw, 4 lost teeth, broken nose and 3 broken ribs. not to mention the cuncussion. the car suddenly stopped responding to acceleration and just revved red line. Normal situations I would have been clear the intersection, no problem. instead, i was t-boned at 55mph. will say this, the rogue holds up well in a crash.

2008 rogue awd tranny failure

rogueowner:

Thank goodness you survived to tell about it...
You should report this transmission failure to NHTSA. To date, this is the first case of CVT transmission failure that I know of; however a lot of people have the dreaded noise. How many miles did you have on the rogue? I have the same with 9K miles, and only a low-level noise. Ed

hi y'all...remember me?....I haven't done much posting since my wife
did a hostile take-over of my Rogue. I tend to just periodically check
to see if anything new is happening to our Rogues.....

...well...my luck ran out yesterday....my tranny started rattling and knocking
when decelerating....my wife has only put 11,500 miles on the clock. I took
it in to Nissan this morning, awaiting their diagnosis.

Other than having a lousy TPMS system which requires 38lbs of air in each
tire to keep the alarm off, this is actually the first real problem I've had. I
will post what the dealership finds???

OK...I just got back from the dealer...my problem is the shift cable and its
boot....they are replacing both. He said it was rubbing the driveshaft which
was causing the ticking/knocking noise. No reason given for its failure? I will
verify this when I drive it home tonight, so.....maybe, there is STILL no
tranny problems on mine??

trans. rattle software update

I purchased a 2008 Rogue 3 weeks ago with 22,000 miles. I noticed the trans. rattle at slow speeds also. I just called the dealer who I purchased it from and asked for an apt. to have it checked. He notified me they just received a new software download for the trans. rattle problem. I have to drop it off tomorrow for an oil change and the update. Will post results after driving for a few miles

I also received the same letter and also have an appointment for another issue (oil comsumption) tomorrow. Will report on any findings.
