Knocking Noise

Hey yall..
I was wondering if this is normal. I've been hearing a knocking noise first thing in the morning. I'd noticed this when the weather got cold. It'll knock like a diesel for at least 2 blocks until it warms up. Bear in mind I live in So Cal and it's not freezing. I called the dealer yesterday about this and they told me that it is normal but I'm not too sure if it is. He said something about the 2.5 L motor is known for this issue. Anyone else having this issue? Thanks..
Jay..

Almost all Nissan engines make a lot of noise when cold, that is the way they are designed.

Your dealer is right.

I've experienced this too, but thats when I don't let the engine warm up enough. Usually like to let the engine run for about 5 minutes or when the rpms drop down below 1000 then I'll start to roll.

Thanks for the replies.. It seems like this happens when it's below 60 degrees. I should warm it up little longer the 10 sec LOL. I don't have much patients.. Just making sure I don't screw up my engine if it's something else.. Anyway thanks again and Merry Christmas..

that noise is normal. here in up north at least 15mins the engine is noisy
and then watch your fuel economy bar is always in full because your computer sends more fuel to compensate for cold
that's why i'll make sure to give some time to heat my engine

2 blocks ! 15 minutes !
That cannot be right. You have max oil pressure within 5-10 seconds of starting the car, when you hear the rattling stop (piston slap - TADT).
I've only had mine a few months, so have not seen a winter yet, but I cannot believe I'll be able to tolerate mechanical engine noise for 15 mins !

So do they all do this ?
Has anyone asked Nissan what the noise actually is ?

This bothers me, reading this !

The sound is only for about a minute when you first start the car. If you let it sit for a little while to warm up the sound goes away. If your car continues to make that sound then you should get it checked out. As far as winter the sound is the same so the colder it gets it will not affect it it. Like all warm ups it takes a little longer to warm up during colder temps.

My 08 sounds like a Subaru for a few minutes when cold. Its annoying but seems to be harmless. My 2000 Chevy Silverado makes the same noise and has for the last 146,000 miles...no problems.

All you're doing is wasting gas and time, though of course its yours to waste. Unless you're dealing with extreme conditions (20 below F or lower for example), your car's engine is ready to go mere seconds after its stated. I start the motor and then bucle my seat belt and turn on the stereo...by that time to oil pressure is up and I'm ready to rock. Drive it wasy for the first 10 minutes and you're up to full operating temperature.

I notice some ticking noise at start up. It's minor and goes away soon. It's concerning, but all my cars make funny noises for awhile. You should hear the "moaning" when it gets to -20
