wierd A/C quirk I believe all Rogues have

I am considering purchasing a Rogue. Have any of you guys noticed that when you change the vents to defroster, and you don't engage the A/C, that when you turn it back it automatically turns the A/C on? I wondering if this can somehow be corrected.

Thanks

Its designed that way so I don't think it can be corrected. Here's the same issue in the Interior section of the forum:
Air Conditioning Mysteriously Turns 'ON'

Hope this helps.

the stupid A/C thing

Ok, I see it:
Switching the mode control dial from D/F position to FOOT position when the fan control dial is ON turns ON
the indicator lamp of A/C switch, and then operates the compressor.

Why in the world would it do this? I can think of no reason this would be designed to do this. Can anyone take a guess why?

I am guessing that who ever designed it was distracted by one of those girl fight videos on utube and just didn't think that hard about it.

Our Rogue does this and Our '05 Frontier does the same thing. Once the defrost is on the compressor is on until the engine is restarted. If you are on a long trip, you have to stop, turn the engine off and restart with the select switch on something other than defrost.

It’s by design the way I understand it. This is mentioned on DVD that came with my Rogue. It has to do with reducing the Humidity in the cabin. I believe they said to leave it on for a little while and then turn the AC off. This will happen in cold outside temps as well.

Its not defective. It's engineered that way. Something about humidity and defrosting. All these hvac systems now put in new vehicles seem to have a mind of their own. Remember "Hal"?

I do have to say, however its designed, it does a far better job of defrosting the interior than my Vibe did.

Bingo! A must-have in climates like mine.

There is a way to override this in my S2000. I have yet to find an equivalent for the Rogue...

Yes, I changed it on my wife's Honda Civic, still have to find how to do it on the Rogue.
I try the same way but did not work.
