Question Who do your car maintenance?

In a form of a poll, I wonder how many of you do their maintenances by themselves?

If you do your maintenance, do you do only basic maintenance (for example: oil, filters, tires, etc...) or the whole shabang (?) ?

If you don't, who take care of your car? Your dealership service department, a generic big store (like canadiantire in Canada, Mr Muffler, etc...), or a small mechanic shop nearby you know for a while?

Do not hesitate to elaborate your answers to explain your choice.

Well, usually i change my own oil, filter and stuff. But since i get every 1st and 5th oil change free, i opted to get my first one for free.... will prolly do my 2nd-4th on my own.... then take back to get 5th free at dealer I know, sneaky, but I prefer to do them myself but I will take FREE when i can get it haha! As far as tires, havent had to worry about that, but on my Honda that i traded, i put new tires on it from like national tire or something like that because the dealer was like 100 dollars higher for a lower grade tire....

I do all my maintenance at the dealer (oil,Filter,ETC) for bigger jobs i guess you can go to regular garage but be sure he knows what he is doing. I usualy just go to the dealer No headaches and you know it's done properly, if not it's under warranty and a plus if you want to sell your car after.

I always do my own. Staple the receipts to the appropriate page of the maintenance manual that came with your vehicle and no worries. It's cheaper, faster and I know it was done right.

Questions to the ones who do their own maintenance:

How about the other oils (transmission, CVT,...)?
In the service manual, it is written for the Nissan technician to do an inspection while doing the engine oil change, but since you are doing the change, nobody is looking at these oils.
Do you check the others oils? If yes, how (I understood that for the CVT fluid, ii is not that easy)?
If no, how do you deal with it? Do you bring your car in advance schedule and ask to change the fluid anyway?

Thank you for your feedbacks.

Same here. I do ALL of the non warranty work. From oil changes to timing belts where applicable. Clutches, alternators, starters, engine rebuilds and build ups, etc.

Hello everyone I just purchased a 2008 Rogue and was wondering if there was a website that would show me what kind of maintenance was done on my vehicle?

I'm not aware of any website like that, but it is an interesting idea. Did you buy your Rogue off the previous owner, or from a dealership? If the latter, ask them if they did any of the service work. This is still a long shot as some people will use several different service centers, for various reasons.

I had a '92 Saturn SL 1 (worst car ever!) that was serviced at no less than 4 different dealerships, a transmission shop, Wal-mart, an independent garage, and myself.

I asked the dealership if all the maintenance would be in the computer if I went to a diff dealer for service and they said no. I get free oil changes there, but there is a dealer 3 miles from my house, which is also right across the street from my job. It is very convenient and I need my 15k maint done soon.
