i guess, my city is the worst in snow. i live in winnipeg canada and we hand lots lots of snow @ -30c to -40+c .. i drive 2011 rogue with all season tire it drives very well and it gives me confident because i know i got good traction control and AWD technology and the most important is my CVT transmission!! why? first i could push thru snow in low rpm without activating my traction or spinning my tires! second i could slow down without using heavy braking because of the CVT transmission.. and regarding to the AWD lock, I JUST USE THIS IF I NEED TO TRANSFER MY POWER TO ALL 4 WHEELS OR PULLING OUT MY SELF INTO A DITCH WHICH NEVER HAPPENS AND I NEVER EVER USE THIS IN OPEN ROAD OR CITY DRIVING W/ FULL OF SNOW. WHY? AWD LOCK IS LIKE A DIFFERENTIAL LOCK IN A SOLID AXLE, WHICH YOU CAN ROLL OVER ANYTIME AND THE AWD SYSTEM IS A AUTOMATIC SYSTEM WHICH SENSE WHEEL SPIN, SO WHICH MEAN YOU DONT NEED TO ACTIVATE THE AWD LOCK UNLESS YOU NEED TRANSFER POWER IN ALL 4 WHEELS.. AND I THINK YOU CAN'T ACTIVATE THIS SYSTEM IN 20+ KM/HR CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG

Holy ---- its been a while, but the answer to your question yes. The AWD turns off automatically once you go past 30 mph.
