New here and have a ?

Hi, I just bought a 2012 Nissan Rogue S and have just finished my first tank of gas. By my figures, I only got 18 mpg. Will this get better as it breaks in? Does the transmission shift better also? Thanks for any input.

Greetings and welcome! Well, the worst mpg I ever got was 21, best was 29.5, but of course milage will vary due to multiple factors.

The CVT transmission takes some getting used to, give it time and you won't even notice it.

I agree you have to get used to the CVT and let it work. This is the first car that I have owned that gets close to the sticker advertised mileage. I always get a lot less with the exception of the Rogue.

how did you come up with that number? have you been idling for long times, warming the car in the cold?

i did notice with the rogue, HIGH SPEED = horrible gas mileage.
70/71mph i found to achieve around or higher than 30mpg's.

i too am not impressed with the 4cyl, but you gotta remember EVERY TIME you pull off from a stop, its in AWD and wasted more gas to get you going- until you are going. (and the shear weight of the car - for the 4cyl to pull)

I drove the car way past the warning light on a full tank. Then divided by 16.
It seems that I get 22 now. Still not that good. I didn't realize it starts in AWD. I thought that it only kicked in when the front tires slip. Interesting.

Yea, um that's not going to very accurate. Directly under your Odometer is a trip odometer with an A and B setting for tracking two different distances.

Pick either one and push the button in to set it at zero the next time you fill up. Drive like normal and when the gas gauge gets to half a tank (going untill your nearly out is not a good idea), then note how many miles you've traveled. Divide that number by the amount of gas you just put in the tank and you'll get a better idea of your mpg's.

I use Fuelly to track my mpg's. So far I've logged 62 fuel ups, averaging 25.2 mpg.

Welcome aboard. If this is your first Rogue, the CVT transmission shifts alittle different from a regular automatic. It takes time getting used to it.

I actually have done that also. But I was told that the first half a tank of gas goes slower than the second. Not sure if I said that right. And i have noticed that I get more out of the first 2 quarters than the second.

Yep, you said it fine. When you get a chance please read the posts in this thread gas gauge defect maybe..

I have yet to own a car that didn't experince "the first half a tank of gas goes slower than the second" phenomenon. It's annoying but not completely normal.
