Hi,

The best way to see if it will fit you is to test drive it.
If you are used to V6 engine you may not like it. Not power wise (it is pretty good actually) but because a 4 cylinder is rougher, less smooth than a V6 or V8, more unbalanced.

As far as problems, the one you will here the most is a problem with the CVT tranny which had to be changed in several 08 (mostly AWD but few FWD too) cars.
It seems to have been redesigned for the 09 model and the problem seems to be gone (noticed the assumptions).

For my part, I have the FWD 08 model for 16 months now, more than 30.000kms on it, and not a single problem on it. Doing about 32mpg but I am hypermiling. Diving normally you should be able to get EPA rating. It all depends how you use the CVT as you have to change your driving to get the best of it (more gentle on the gas pedal as the feedback (acceleration) is less noticeable).

As far as FWD vs AWD, it all depends of your use and location. As you can see, I am from Canada, and like a lot of my compatriots, I felt the FWD version was enough for my needs, even with our winter (I was more looking for clearance than traction). Winter tires are way better than any AWD system: When braking, AWD or FWD won't change anything.

Hope this helps.
