Squid, Rogue oil changes couldn't be easier, particularly with my Fram Sure Drain in place, but removing the spent oil filter (thoughtfully mounted horizontally) without spilling the contents seems impossible.

In an earlier exchange it was suggested that I encase the fillter in a plastic bag. That did not work out at all! Granted, I've been working around the plastic shroud rather than attempting to remove it, but I can't believe the Nissan techs bother to do this. (Besides, the manual is very unhelpful: "Remove small plastic fasteners." I've no idea what they are talking about.) Help?
