I agree; I am a programmer myself, and it's clear that the software is able to write to the entire screen (eg, when displaying a map), so I have no idea why they would have limited the length of the character string that's displayed to only about half the screen.

Do you mean upgrades are not available
YET or
EVER? I hope it's not the latter! And I've never been all that thrilled with the idea that you only get the original map database "free," but all future updates cost fairly big bucks. I should think they could at least give you 2 or 3 years worth at no extra charge, or maybe $10 or $20 for shipping the media. Seems to be the least you could expect when you purchase something that costs $25-30,000!
Navteq sends out annual DVDs to update the map data in the MyGig system in Chrysler/Dodge/Playmouth/Jeep vehicles and it costs $299 to buy the installation key!

I think I saw that too, and it doesn't make sense...pretty much any modern integrated stereo/nav/Bluetooth system should be quite flexible because so much is defined by its software, and "holding back" any features certainly isn't saving costs, nor is it going to necessarily push buyers into more expensive vehicles since you could always replace the system with a far more advanced aftermarket product.
Reminds me of when automakers used to routinely install rather poor factory sound systems in new cars and everyone said, "Always buy a car without a radio or with the cheapest radio they have, then after you buy it you can rip it out and install a good one."
I'm not fed up or anything yet, but I am at least considering swapping the factory system for something better...it might cost a couple thousand dollars, but since I almost "live" in my car (I drive an average of 25-30,000 miles a year), so it could be worth the trouble and investment...
