| Removing rear wiper arm Some nice young men shot out my hatch glass with a BB gun, so I had the glass company come out to replace it. This requires removing the wiper arm... but it would not come off. I finally had to take the whole wiper assembly out and take it to the dealer and have them get the arm off. So I thought I'd share what I learned.
The wiper arm is pressure fit onto a conical spline, then held on by a nut - which is a very common way to hold wiper arms on. In theory, you just remove the nut and pull off the arm. But mine had rusted in place, making me wonder if there was something else holding it. There isn't.
The way to get it off if it is stuck, is to remove the nut, spray above and below the arm with WD-40, then tap the bolt lightly - helps drive the WD-40 into the spline. Then with a bit of force, the arm should pull off. |
