How to Install a Rear Spoiler on the Rogue

I installed a rear spoiler recently on my 2008 Rogue. It did require drilling 4 holes in the back hatch. Came with a template and good instructions.

Here was the steps.

- Removed Inside plastics around hatch window
- Put the template guides on the Spoiler
- Placed the spoiler on the car and tape them down
- Removed the spoiler leaving the templates behind
- Drill the 4 holes
- Treated the holes with anti rust stuff (included)
- Place the cushion washers over the holes
- Place the spoiler on the hatch and have someone hold it
- Inserted the screws on the inside grabbing the spoiler and screwing down
- Being careful not to screw down too tight

One Suggestion that made it easier is to start the screws in the plastic spoiler while it's off and on the ground. Screw the screws all the way in to the spoiler and back out again. This way you tap the plastic making threads and it makes it easier when it comes time to screw it down on the hatch.

I found it easy and the whole job took about 2 hours. Drilling the hatch was a little scary but was ok. The holes were accessible on the inside of the hatch and I was able to start each screw and got them all in first before screwing them down.

Remember do your research, have the right tools and DO - IT - YOURSELF whenever possible whatever it is !

Hope this helps Have Fun.

Great write up and man that spoiler is cool! Really gives the rear of the rogue that finished look. By the way, where did you get it and about how much? Thanks!

I might mention that it makes the installation sooo much easier if you have a helper.

It's the brand "California Dream" and Model number is 905N. You can purchase from the dealer in my area for $275. (just part no install). I picked it up online for $92.00 plus shipping. They have them in all the Rogue Colors. For some reason White is more money ? Just google California Dream 905 and there is a few compnays selling them. Hope this helps.

Agreed I tried by myself using duct tape to hold it in place while I went inside the car and screwed it down. Luckly the wife showed up to help and it went much easier. The last thing you want is for it to crash down on the ground putting dings in it. Help holding in the final step is good advise. Plus only start the screws don't drive them home. ALso start on the outside holes on both sides first then move to the inside holes. You don't want to tighten too much since it's metal on plastic. I drove around for a week and then tightened it up again. Also I left off the inside plastic until we got a good rain just to make sure the holes were water tight. I dabbed a little clear caulk on the screw heads inside the hatch just to be sure. You can't see it after the plastics are back on.

Nice tutorial! Thanks!

Just curious as to why you settled on the California Dream brand. There are a lot of companies selling aftermarket spoilers for the Rogue. In fact the overall design can even change from company to company. (i.e. look different) Was just wondering if you picked California Dream due to their reputation... or price... the design ?

I know the "Genuine Nissan" spoilers are made of fiberglass whereas many of the aftermarket spoilers like California Dream brands are made of plastic. The plastic models have the advantage of being lighter (and less expensive) than the factory spoilers. I'm not sure if there are any other advantages.

I guess my main concern is longevity (i.e. will plastic and fiberglass hold up equally as well over time). I've had both acrylic plastic and fiberglass hot tubs that set out in the sun for many years. The gelcoat on the fiberglass broke down after about 10 years and got ruff to the touch (exposing glass fibers in some places. The acrylic plastic also failed in about 10 years displaying thousands of little hairline spider cracks. (eventually having a few grow so big the water starting leaking out)

Hmmm... extruded aluminum?

I went with Plastic since it's lighter. The rear hatch shocks have been replaced. The hatch was going up real slow (under Warranty). This happened before I installed the spoiler and figured light might be better. Plus this brand used Dupont Car Paint and seemed like good quality at about 1/3 the dealers price for the glass version. That's my story and I'm stickin to it.
