BOSE Stereo

Sounds ok at low volume, but when I want to turn it up a bit it really loses any decent tonal quality and it has zero stereo imaging. My question is, whats the weakest link? Speakers if my first guess (their placement of course is the imaging problem), followed by amps. Headunit is probably not the worst component.

Any thoughts?

Guess I'm just getting old, which I am, but I'm ok with the Bose. I neither expect nor demand "high end" audio in a car since there are so many interfering noises. Also, IMHO, I find loud volume in a car distracting and masking of audible cues as to what is going on around you.

Having lost a leg in a vehicle accident due to an inattentive driver, I tend to be deadly seroius about my driving and that of those around me.

The speakers in general are weak, but the woofer is really sub-par. The head unit leaves a bit to be desired as well. Funny though, some have commented that at low volume the system shows it's weakness, but increasing the volume does help, sort of.

I agree, the whole stereo is weak, I am amazed that BOSE put their name on this system. I had Bose in Maxima, Altima, and Pathfinder and the sound was a lot better. The problem is with everything connected to the steering wheel it is expensive and very involved to change the whole system.

I'm 41. No spring chicken here. While I don't usually turn the music up to "kid in a Civic" levels, I do enjoy loud rock music.

Tonal quality is meh at volumes ranging up to 10 or 12 on the headunit's scale. Its listenable, but nothing that makes me sit up and say wow. Much past the 12 or so limit and it starts distorting badly. I'd be willing to bet that the whole system is running sans-crossovers and all speakers (sub included) are getting full range inputs, which might be half the problem right there. Sounds a lot like the time I accidentally switched my truck's sub amp from LPF to full range.
