| Sorry. I misread the manual. It is referred to simply as "the light." I think it's page 2-53 or 54 The light *4 (if so equipped) will illuminate when the headlight switch is turned to the or position. It doesn't specifically say what the light is for, so I guess we can say whatever we like. «its simply a convenience feature to help your eyes adjust to see the interior a bit better & faster while driving in the dark.» That makes sense.

| I'm gonna hafta agree with ImStricken on this one. Orange mood light? What mood is Orange supposed to represent? If I want mood lighting I'll add a disco ball with lasers!

| bmw did a study on amber/orange light. its is the brightest, easiest to adjust too - while being the brightest light. hence why their dashes have been amber/orange for decades. they chose orange because it's a good compromise between red and yellow: red is best for not disturbing night vision, but red doesn't always illuminate things well. The same color is used in airplane cockpit instruments because it is also easy to read and easy on the eyes.

| Its there so you (and especially your passenger) can see stuff in the center stack at night withough having to turn on the map lights and affect the driver's vision. Our 02 A4 had them too...they're actually nice to have...makes it easy for my wife to find stuff like the cup in the cupholder or something inside the console. Chalk it up to Nissan seeing that premium branded cars like Audi have these, therefore there must be a logical and useful reason for them to exist so we need to have them too...without ever knowing the real reason they're there. Kind of like the Burger King branch location strategy...let McDonalds do all the market research and analysis and then just put up a BK near the McDonalds. |
