Attempted Theft

Hi everyone I am new to this site and wanted to ask a question; actually two. My Girlfriend has a white 09 Rogue SL AWD. This Friday night someone tried to break in and damaged the driver side door handle really badly and now the door won't open. When we explained to the guy at the body shop what happened he said "yeah you have a Nissan right" (the body shop guy knows my GF pretty well!!) he made a comment that when this sort of thing happens to a Nissan something inside the door breaks making the door impossible to open. My question is whether or not this is done intentionally to prevent the thief from gainig entry or is just a fluke that happens to work out for the owner? My other question is if someone had broken in would they be able to drive off without the Keyfob. The ignition doesn't need the key to be turned as long as the KF is in the vehicle but it looks like a standard ignition switch that a thief could do whatever they do to get it tostart. I am pretty condfident that the "P -Lock" would prevent the thief from being able to move the shifter in the event he/she could get it started. Any thoughts thanks.
