AWD general question

Hello all. I had a really general question concerning the AWD feature (2008 model). If you live in the northeast you know the snow and ice have come in the past few days. I just wanted to know if I wanted AWD Auto or AWD lock? On the way over to my buddies house, I hit the switch once and the AWD lock button lit up for about 5 minutes than went away. I don't know if that meant it was on, turned off or went to auto. Any advice would be much appreciated! Stay warm!

According to my manual, page 5-21, each time you push the lower part of the switch the mode will go from AUTO to LOCK to AUTO. As I understand it, if it's in LOCK mode the indicator light stays lit, otherwise it's in AUTO mode. By the way, 14 below tonight is not exactly staying warm but we'll be in DC tomorrow and I expect much better temps for Christmas.

Thanks for the response CD. Coming from a 1996 Jeep that handled AMAZING in the snow/ice, I have been kind of feeling so-so about my Rogue. I was slipping and slidding all over the place this morning, and when I was playing around with the AWD button it didn't do much. I wonder if I am doing something wrong...

Stay warm out there! Looks like some rain is coming for the East Coast on X-man, should thaw stuff out a little bit.
