Honda CR-V and Nissan Rogue are both great car (you can add the Toyota RAV-4 and Mitsubishi Outlander too).
You just have to ask you questions about the differences between the two:
- Are you looking for 100% reliability or do not mind some youth problem? The Rogue is in its first year of production and the CR-V is there for a long time already (the only changes are cosmetic). For sure, more you wait, more the difference between the two will disappear.
- Are you looking for a more advanced car technologically speaking? I am still waiting for Honda to move the CR-V closer to the Civic for example. The Rogue is more advanced and you can feel it when you climb in it.
- Do you want a truck or a car CUV? CR-V is based on a truck chassis, the Rogue is car-based (and one of the best chassis). Believe me, you can really feel the difference when you drive it (light years difference when I test drove the Mazda Tribute of a friend).
The best way is to test drive both of them, preferably one after the other the same day, your butt feeling will be more accurate to feel the differences.
On a personal note, I rejected the CR-V right away as I did not want an automatic transmission, that is just like that, don't ask why

.
I agreed to loose my stance and accept the CVT (thing that I don't regret at all now), but still prefer a manual transmission (great feeling to drive my wife Civic from time to time

, except for the bug cover steering wheel

).
My wife did not want the RAV4 (only SUV with manual transmission) because of the roll effect in curves, but after the first turn in the Rogue, told me: This is the car you will be driving now

, and I said: Yes Master!
Still waiting for the saleperson from Mitsubishi to call us back for a test drive of the Outlander

, so I cannot talk yet about this SUV.
