It's momma's now!!!

My wife was complaining about getting in and out
of her Acura TSX because of some on-going back
and leg pain....she said she needed something
that sat higher off the ground.....(can ya figure
out whats coming...)

So, I let her confiscate my Rogue....I'm either
going to keep her Acura or.....get this....since
I'm retired and don't do much except go to the
grocery store and the golf course, I'm thinking
very seriously about selling her Acura and getting
one of those Smart Fortwo, (mercedes benz),
micro cars that gets 40+ mpg. What a huge
change that would be from my(wife's) Rogue!

Oh well, life goes on, ya gotta do whatcha gotta
do....in this case, gotta keep the wife healthy and
happy....I WILL miss the Rogue...I'm just wondering
if she had this planned all along???

I feel the pain MisterGib.

As for now, I successfully kept the Rogue mine, but I am not sure when winter will come and snow will fall. I may have to go back to the Civic with this horrible bugs steering wheel cover.

For the fortwo, I thought about it for awhile, for me (when I was working in the city) or for our girls who are coming close to try to steal our cars, and if I may , I will give you my thought on it:
It is nice for the european market, not that much for the north american one IMO: There are too many big pickups and trucks around here to be safe in a so small car.

Put a smart car close to a F250 for example and look where are the bumpers of the pickup: just in your face. I would not like to see the result of a collision between the two.
It is my main concern about the small cars, and right now, I am more looking for a car with a small engine (1.6 or 1.8l), aerodynamic shape, and two real rows of seats in case of a rear collision.

As you say, it is my $0.02 on it, I don't know what you do with your car.

I hear ya.....trust me, I've considered all things you
talked about....

This car does have the top rating on crash tests,
you can view them on the net, (youtube), but I do
understand that there's no substitute for size.

Its the same for motorcycles....and I've ridden them
for over 40 years, and they do TERRIBLE on crash
tests(lol!)...Growing up on bikes is probably why it
doesn't bother me at all about owning a Smart car,
I've never been fearful of that stuff, I just drive
defensively and don't worry about it.

I figure life is all about taking chances anyway, so
what the heck, ya gotta have some fun, you only
live once, and its too short! I didn't work 30 years,
and retire, just to put boundaries on me....I'm
gonna enjoy the time I got...

(Also, with the price of gas where its at and where
its going, there is gonna be fewer and fewer of the
big pickups and suvs on the road...)

If you're serious about a smart car click this. If I lived in town I'd drive one. You don't need 500 HP and 3 rows of seats to drive 40 mph down to the local restaurant or Walmart and my sister-in-law is looking at getting one. Did you know they make a convertible?

Squid! ...you are starting a Smart car forum too??...is
there nothing you can't do?

I've already registered on the Smart car site, got a
reservation number, called the local dealer and gave
him the reservation number and had him put me on the
"orphan list". They get 50 cars in a month, 10 of those
50 become orphans each month because the buyers back
out... I've already had one call from the dealership, but I
didn't like the car he had available. (This is the only way
to do it realistically as the normal wait is from 12-15
months.)

We'll see what happens....

...well Squid....I'm putting a period on the Smart
car thing.....not gonna do'er....

Its amazing how lead footed my wife was and how
much difference a little patient driving can make...I
went and filled her Acura TSX up, reset the trip
computer, then, I drove it here in the city only,
doing steady stop and go driving, up to a max of
45mph.....I put exactly 50 miles on the car.

According to the trip computer, I averaged a
wonderful 31.5mpg! To check the computer, I went
and filled up again.....for the 50 miles of driving, it
took 1 1/2 gallons of gas! The computer was
correct.

So, since I really don't drive much anymore, and
when I do, I get 31mpg city.....it would be a big
mistake to trade this really nice Acura with only
15k miles on the clock, for a Smart car....I ain't
gonna do it! I'd be kick'n myself in the butt every
day....

So, Momma's got the Rogue, and I'm staying with
the Acura.....period!
