Red face Roof Rail Holes

Hello everyone. I just got a 2010 Rogue and to get the Iridium Graphite they did an "interdealer" transfer. It only had 83 miles on it - about the right distance. However, the roof side rails have 8 holes in them and it's bothering the heck out of me.

So I want to know if it's due to the previous dealer having had the rails on it and removed them leaving the open holes or does the car come that way? I can't believe it does.

I tried to find something nice to plug them up but all efforts failed due to not knowing the size.

I stopped at the parts/service dept of the dealership and he brought out the rail package and the screws are too long as they are made to go into the rail piece. They claim there is no plug available or screws either.

Any light anyone can shed on this? Or at least tell me the size? I'm guessing 8mm or thereabouts but the thread pattern is another unknown.

Thanks Nancy

Roof Rail Holes

Nancy, I think you're absolutley correct in your assumption about the previous dealer removing the cross-rails. My 2010 SL has 4 screws installed on each side to keep moisture and dirt out of the holes and also improve the appearance. I'm not sure what size they are but they are standard head slotted screws that are genuine Nissan parts. I would go back to the dealer and if you're unable to convince your salesperson or Mgr. they should install them for you at no cost, speak to the parts dept. and just buy 8 for your own peace of mind. ~ Tony

I'd take that car back and get another one without the holes. In the long run thats going to bother you.

Gixxer, all side rails have holes in them, changing car won't change anything.

wbcandme, the holes in the side rails are used to install the cross rails to the side rails. You can either ask to have the cross rails or ask for the holes to get fill with the plastic screws which are in place originally.
From what I understand, the car was originally with cross rails but since it is an option, when they did the switch between dealers, the other dealer decided to keep the cross rails as they were not part of the deal, but did not put back the plugs after removing them.

They should have these plugs at your dealer. If they don't understand what you are talking about, go in the showroom and look at a Rogue without the cross rails, it should have it as it comes out of the factory like that. Ask to get these ones or ones from the parts department.

I'm guessing all the Rogue models come with the precut holes huh. I have the 08 S AWD, then those holes must be under the two black strips on the roof on the outside of the car. But whats confusing to me is that to the op (original poster) you tried to find something nice to plug them up but all efforts failed due to not knowing the size. You stopped at the parts/service dept of the dealership and he brought out the rail package and the screws are too long as they are made to go into the rail piece. They claim there is no plug available or screws either. Are you still trying to cover the holes even with the black strips on?

Gixxer, I think we are not talking about the same things.
You have a S AWD model, do you have the roof side rails? I don't know because in Canada the S AWD Rogue have them (not the S FWDs), but I think it is different in the US.

From what I understood, the OP has the roof side rails but not the cross rails, and the holes he is talking about are the holes which are used to connect the cross rails to the side rails, not the ones attaching the side rails to the car.

But I may be mistaken, needs more information/clarifications.

Oh, ok I think I understand now. I thought the rack came complete not in parts. My Rogue has no roof rack at all with two black strips running from front to back on both sides where the rack would mount. Thanks for clarifying that bud.
