Question Rear bumper buttons..what are they for??

OK, I'm stumped....why do some of you have
those little plastic-looking buttons across your
rear bumper, and mine is smooth all the way
across??? Anybody else notice these things??
Why don't ALL of us have them??? Even the
NissanUSA.com site gallery does NOT show
them???

Here is the link showing pictures of cdmuile's
Rogue with the buttons:
Finished off Rogue.....I think.

I figure that they must be for added support for
the rear facia/bumper attachment...I'm just really
curious as to why my 08 doesn't have them??

Could it be that Nissan has found that there was a
problem and started adding these buttons as a
fix??

What say you guys???

rear bumper buttons...

....nevermind...duh!

I didn't realize what they are because I've never
had the option installed on mine....so I took a
drive down to the local Nissan dealership to
answer my curiosity, and......

I found out that they are the back-up warning
sensors for the obstacle avoidance system....
curiosity fulfilled!

Don't feel too bad about it Gib. I vividly remember reading a review of a new Bentley model about five years ago written by a very respected auto writer. At the end of the article he stated that "A $200,000 auto should not have body moulding fasteners visible on the rear bumper". Needless to say, Bentley Motors quickly responded saying that those four "buttons" were not fasteners. Ouch!

I actually learned something here...before, I used
to wonder why Lincoln would use those silly rear
bumper rivets on such a fancy and expensive suv.
lol! ...not to be confused again....
