| Installing the "Dallas Automotive" spoiler I just finished installing the "Dallas Automotive Restyling" Rogue spoiler. It was shipped from "Booyahparts" in San Marcos, Ca. It looks really nice. The lower edge of the spoiler finishes off the upward sweep of the small side window. Sweeet! The unit is fibreglass and not too heavy. The paint job was excellent. Installing it is really a two person job.Took me about two hours. The instructions involve only steps two through seven . You will need a 10 mm socket wrench with a short extension, a long screw driver and a very short one and a little bit more masking tape to hold things together. Here are some hints: Step 2) Five plastic locator strips come with the package. You only need four for the Rogue. The "T" locator strips are for determining where to drill the holes in the liftgate. A tab( the verticle part of the "T") is inserted into the mounting holes of the spoiler. Make sure they are easily removed from the holes as you will be lifting the spoiler off later. Don't use much masking tape to hold them in place. Remember you will soon be lifting the spoiler off them. It's a good idea to better define the mounting holes on the spoiler by swabbing them with either "white out" or a black felt tip marker depending on the spoiler color. This will make the holes easier to see when you are trying to find them for the final mounting. Step 3) I used two long strips of masking tape running from the roof to the spoiler to hold it in place for measuring. Step 4) Tape the locator strips securely to the car body. Lift off the spoiler. It should come off easily if you followed step 2 instructions. Step 5) Using a one eighth inch drill bit drill right through the tab and into the liftgate. Step 6) The instructions say to use a five sixteenth inch drill bit to enlarge the four holes. I went a bit larger to give me a better view of the spoiler mounting holes once in place above the open liftgate. On the underside of the liftgate there is plastic paneling going up the sides and across the top of the liftgate. Remove the top(horizontal) panel by reaching between the glass and panel and carefully pulling the panel outward. It will snap right out. No more drilling should be necessary. This will let you see the two middle mounting holes. On the sides, both left and right, there are two rubber grommets for the wiring harnesses. Remove these and you will see the two outer mounting holes you've drilled. Use a little piece of masking tape to hold the mounting screws in the 9mm socket. Also, tape the 9mm socket to the extension. Yes, you will drop something into the body panels if you don't. Last edited by cdmuile : 03-03-2008 at 09:47 PM. Reason: long is better than big. |
