Roof Rack Cross Bars Does anybody have the cross bars for the roof rack? I'm looking to carry a kayak, and I want to make sure they are pretty sturdy. I know the manual says no more than 100lbs, which should be fine for the kayak (around 75lbs), but I also saw in the installation procedures where they said not to directly load the cross bars, so I want to know how sturdy they feel. Thanks!

The cross bars look and feel like they would handle 100 lbs. My guess is that they don't want you to put 100 lbs of gear in a 40 lb cargo carrier and assume you're OK. Or, 6 sheets of plywood. We know the manufacturer is just protecting their b**** against lawsuits.

roof rack cross bars I have a Rogue with the factory installed roof rack and dealer installed crossbars, but the Thule dealer says I have to buy their rack for a roof cargo box or bike rack, because of the curved rails. Anyone have experience with putting a cargo box on the Rogue withOUT Yakima or Thule rails?

I suggest you that if you have some time before needing to use it, try to install it without the Yakima or Thule parts, and if you see that it does not work, you still have time to buy them. |

The instructions are referring to the plastic "screws" that are really just to cover the predrilled holes in the roof rails. The instructions meant that these plastic covers would not be needed once you mounted the cross bars. I don't think I would be removing and reinstalling the bars. That's really going to be a hastle. But,that's up to you

Aftermarkert Crossbars for the Rogue So I've been trying to do some research on the crossbar dilemma since I just bought a Rogue SL and I do own a Yakima Blacktop16 cargo box, which is like 4 years old. I've been debating on getting Nissan's crossbars, but their load limit is a "weak" 100 lbs. If you get the yakima or thule system, you are able to create a system that can carry 165 lbs. I actually work at a store that sells Yakima and Thule parts and just this year Thule came out with a new crossbar that is called the "Rapid Aero Load bars" that would latch onto the "Rapid Crossroad." Now these bars look great and are not that boring black bar that Yakima and Thule usually have. They have a nice aerodynamic shape and are silver. Check them out if you are intereted

Received the cross bars on friday (long wait from Booyahparts), put them on on saturday. They look nice and as strong as the one I had on my RAV4 (cross bar is metal and junctions are hard plastic). Distance between the two bars is almost identical to the RAV4, just 1.5 inch shorter, just enough to force me to move the attach point on my Thule I foresee no problem putting my Thule box on it and go camping. If the weather permits, we will go next weekend and I will put the box on the car even if we don't need it, just as a dry run. The only negative side of these bars are the black screws on so nice silver bars, anyway.
