| Hello : I have loaded my Kayak on the roof racks of my Rogue many times without a problem. My Kayak is 49lbs. I was placing padding down between the rack and the Yak but decided it was not needed. I lay the Yak directly on the racks and use ratchet straps on the sides. It has not damaged the racks so far. One thing I don't like about the rack is the cross members CAN NOT be moved. Most factory racks will move forward or back allowing you to adjust things. I find that very annoying. Here's a tip for you.... In the trunk area on the left side under the storage door you will find the threaded metal tow eyelet. Screw it into the frame under the front bumper. It will give you a nice place to tie down a front rope. I use the tow hook hole in the back right side for the back rope. Also I got some foam pipe insulation used to insulate a hot water heaters pipes. It's hollow inside and I slide the rope through it on the front and back ropes to protect from paint rubbing. I would say the racks are very strong and the 100lb limit it a manufacture CYA. They would take much more just make sure it's tight since the wind is more of an issue then weight. Also I have a question for you. Did you get a Torque screw driver with your rack ? It’s used to remove the screws for the cross bars. I'm not sure if they just didn’t include one or mine is missing. I want to try and remove the cross bars when not in use to maybe squeeze another MPG out of it…..every little bit helps |
