Nissan Rogue Real World MPG Discussion

Nissan Rogue Real World MPG Discussion:

ok so iv been pondering and pondering on how to bring this topic up.
and i have come forth with evidence, and my own crazy-talk. lol

well, im from NJ = the road-rage capitol of America i think. drivers whip around at 80-90mph on highways on a regular. Heck, even Toyota Prius drivers zip around with "Eat My Ions" bumper stickers. So its not a secret that im also 'keeping up with traffic' at 80+ on my morning commute and afternoon drive home. - AND I HAVE WATCHED MY FUEL GAUGE ABSOLUTELY SKYDIVE.

i have done the math, the science, and the physics lol. but i have come up with the ideal fuel economy-miles per hour to travel on the highway in this car to see 30+ mpg's. 70mph-71mph
now i am not advocating speeding, or driving faster than posted- im just stating the facts.
i filled up full, and traveling through 5miles of local roads with stop signs & traffic lights, and then roughly 70mph for the rest, i was able to travel this far (before i ran out of space) and still was registering FULL.

70mph at 2,000rpm = 34.8MPG on the computer.

13 dashes on the fuel gauge x 26.8 = 348.4miles total in a tank.
who knows, maybe i can travel a few more miles before it drops to the 12th dash.

but i just wanted to share with people that travel on highways, that 70-71 is your best fuel economy. traveling slower will lower your MPGs - and certainly traveling faster will too.

Hmm, '08 Rougue. Results may vary as engine electronics are fine tuned with improvements in engine design.

our engines have not been changed in a while.
maps on the other hand are changed often, and fine tuned.

check it out yourselves. use the MPG computer and see where you get the highest and best results

i get better mileage at 40-50 mph rather than at 70. Less wind resistance and engine lugs at pretty low rpm.

Make sure the trip computer is accurate before you bother. Mine is usually a few tenths mpg optimistic, the one in my old 02 Altima was a full couple of MPGs high, the one in the Audi was dead accurate.

You MUST reset the mpg at the same time you fill the tank and reset the trip odometer or you're skewing the results.

I rarely travel on highways anymore, we just don't go places where we need to use a highway very often these days, and have only had the Rogue on one trip so far. Avg highway speed was right around 70 and my fuel economy across 2 tanks was about 25-26mpg. The entire trip was NOT highway, so this isn't exactly great data.

All in all, I've been very impressed with the economy of the Rogue. Any AWD suv that pulls consistent 23mpg around town is remarkable in my book...my truck averages about 12 city or highway, unloaded or 3500 lb of gravel in the back...the Audi was around 16-18.

My MPG's are all over the map. I can say that generally if I can get to highway speed and set the cruise control, milage is very good. That being said, this tankfull is giving me 26.7mpg on short trips averaging 15 miles round trip, with a top speed of only 50mph.

NJ still has station attendents that are required to pump your gas right? Do they top off or stop at first click?

If they've been trained properly it should be first click. Overfilling can mess with the lifespan of your fuel system.

I overfilled my wife once when we were much younger, and it was indeed quite a mess. We know better now.

They will top-off to the best looking number if your paying cash, or not top off at all if your paying credit.

UPDATE:
I DROVE 34 miles, and around half a mile or so after that it dropped one dash on the fuel gauge scale from 100% full, to the 12th spot.

each tab on the fuel gauge represents 1.22 gallons.
15.9gall tank / 13tabs = 1.22gallons.

do the math and it equals to 27.86MPG
