Burning Oil

Hi - I have a 2009 SL AWD - have 1650 miles on it now. Checked the oil the other day and it is about 1/2 quart low on the dip stick. Was full when I purchased it. Seems to run fine not overly concerned at this point, being a new vehicle and all maybe this is to be expected - but this is my first Japanese car. Anyway I have my first scheduled service mid Oct and just wondering, since I haven't seen this question addressed here, has anyone else noticed a little oil burning.
And a question to those who have a lot more miles than me, does this settle down or does it still seem to burn a little oil as time goes by?
Thanks

is there blue smoke coming from your muffler?

I for one don't have any issues about this and i have about 20,000 KMS on mine.
After your scheduled oil change, if this continues you may wanna bring this up with the dealer.

Have you noticed any oil spots in your drive way?

Hey Roguer 2008, thanks for the reply. No smoke as I noticed, no noises, clangs or banging - running real smooth. Rechecked it the other day and still 1/2 low and maybe a little dirty. I asked this question on the other website and most seem to agree that I drive such a short distance to work every day, 7 miles each way and the low milage I have on the vehicle this is probably normal. I have never owned a Japanese car before so I didn't know if this was normal or not on this model. Don't see any leaks and the car runs fine, like I said I am due for service in less than a month and will bring this up with the dealer just to get it on record.
I was thinking about syntheic oil, but people in the other fourm didn't think that would help my issue -
Anyway I will keep a close eye on it and add if I need to, thanks again for your reply.
P.S. I wish more people would post on this fourm - It's nice to get a second opinion.

Hello : My Rogue now has 22K miles and the oil level on the dip stick has never moved. I have an old 66 Mustang and started using synthetic oil in it. The problem is synthetic is thinner than conventional oil. If you have any leaks they will be more pronounced with synthetic. I use a blend of 50/50 synthetic to conventional in the old car. As for your Rogue that's not driven much it sounds like it would be a candidate for synthetic since you probably reach the 3 months way before the 3K miles. Since synthetic doesn't break down you should be able to go more months between oil changes. You can call the companies that manufacture synthetic oil most have customer service lines listed on the bottle and get their opinion. Good luck with the oil level problem. Maybe a dye in the oil system that can be seen under ultra violet is in order, maybe a slow leak somewhere, drain plug or filter maybe ? Put a piece of clean cardboard under the car over night and check for stains in the morning.

Sounds silly, but be sure you're on level ground when checking the dipstick. Some engines need to be totally level to get a correct reading.

I got the same problem on oil consumption, I brought my Rouge 09 to the dealership when I heard a ticking sound from my engine on 7K. They said that engine is low in oil. They top it up and found last week that at 8.7K it went down to a little above of half of oil dip stick. I also found a black carbon on my tail pipe. I just brought my Rougue to dealership today. Ill post the result of their findings.

Just came back from the dealership and was advised that there is no problem on the engine but they will monitor it every 1000 km. If anyone is experiencing the smae problem. Let me know.
Thanks

If you're having the oil changed by someone else I wonder if they are compensating for the oil filter? Some people make the mistake of looking at the capacities page in the manual but that will only show the oil capacity of the pan and not what is needed for an oil and filter change which is more depending on the filter size of the engine. Just a thought.
