There are a lot of air filters and Cold Air Intakes (CAI) on the market promising to add HP and Torque but what about protecting the engine? I've been excited about this technology for many years and finally it's available to the rest of us. Amsoil carries the Donaldson Air Filters and nano fiber oil filters.

Donaldson Endurance™ Air Filters with exclusive nanofiber technology offer longer engine life, longer filter life, initial efficiency up to 99.99 percent and five times more capacity. The nanofiber technology causes submicron contaminants to be held on the surface layer of smaller fibers. This filtration characteristic is only possible with this new type of air filtration technology. In on-highway applications, where the contaminant is primarily submicron in size, Donaldson Endurance filters cause less restriction than conventional filters with cellulose media. The smaller interfiber spaces of nanofiber technology have a higher efficiency and capture more contaminant. The following illustration may help visualize these phenomena: Imagine two filters, a chain link fence and a mosquito net, with a tennis ball being a dirt particle. As you may have observed, a tennis ball will fit quite nicely into an opening of a chain link fence, but will obstruct the hole almost 100%. Now imaging the same tennis ball covering a mosquito net. The tennis ball, at the point of contact with the netting, will obstruct much less filter area than the chain link fence example. In fact, air will flow around the tennis ball all the way to the point of contact. It will take many more particles to obstruct the netting surface area than the chain link fence. Donaldson Endurance™ air filters are guaranteed to deliver twice the miles between change intervals over cellulose air filters for on-highway applications or customers receive a new filter at no charge. |
It's also the Filter media on the new Volant intakes called the
Powercore filter.

Volant’s new technology packs hundreds of staggered flutes into one rugged air filter design. The flutes trap dirt at the surface instead of letting it clog in the pleats like old-time filters. The Volant PowerCore Replacement Filter allows more power-rich air and less engine-killing crud into your motor. And, your Volant PowerCore Air filter requires zero maintainance for the next 100,000 miles! The verdict is in; cotton-gauze is for bandages not air filters. 30 years ago cotton-gauze was the only way to make a performance filter, but that was 30 years ago. So, why do the leading brands still rely on ancient methods? No one knows, but Volant’s PowerCore launches the performance air filter into the 21st century. Already have a cold air intake? No problem, the PowerCore fits most popular aftermarket systems. So, you can upgrade your K&N, Airaid or AEM intake to the unsurpassed performance and protection of the Volant PowerCore. Best yet, your PowerCore Filter is backed by Volant’s 4-year, 100,000-mile warranty.- Oil-Free: The oil-free media means your PowerCore stays maintenance free for up to 100,000 miles.
- Rugged Design: The rugged design makes your Volant PowerCore filter impervious to water
- Fluted Design: Volant scraps pleated cotton-gauze for this revolutionary straight-through fluted design, hundreds of fluted layers trap 99.95% of the damaging particles trying to kill your engine
- The Volant PowerCore is designed to replace the aftermarket air filter in most popular cold air intake systems
- Warranty: Volant backs your PowerCore with a 4-year or 100,000-mile warranty—whichever comes first!
- Effecient: PowerCore’s ability to let air in and keep dirt out makes it 3 times more efficient than conventional filters.

This is the same Filter media used on the U.S. Army Abrams over in Iraqi and since I live in a miserable and dusty area of the country this is the CAI/Filter Combo I've chosen to buy for my new truck. (They do sell just the Powercore replacement for those of you looking to upgrade without buying a new CAI.

I've included this nifty PDF for those of you with a technical mentality and if you can wait until they come out with one for the Rogue you won't be disappointed.
