Am I right?

Do you know if the XLF Amsoil 5w30 is a full synthetic oil (group IV) or a 'false' synthetic oil (Group III)?
I noticed on the Amsoil website that they proudly say that the ASL oil is "100% synthetic motor oil" but for the XLF oil they only say "Extended Life synthetic motor oil", no 100% synthetic on this page.

They are all so vague that I become suspicious on everything now. Bad for business not to be 100% honest.

Pick an oil and run it for 3000 miles, pay the $20 for an oil analysis and if it's not doing it's job dump it and try something different until you find the oil you and the engine like. That's what I did because it is all confusing and marketing is just a fancy word for lying.

Mobil One Is Not A True Synthetic. If It Was That List Of Manufactures Would Print Manuals They Say Change Oil Every 15,000 Miles.

Both are a great choice... but if you want to stay under the warranty rules, it is a total waste of money.

Amsoil oil is for extended drain interval. For example, the SSO 0w30 oil is for 35.000 miles Oil Change Interval (half in severe use) or one year, as to stay under warranty you wouldn't be able to keep the oil in the car for more than 7.500 miles or 6 months.

So depending of your use, you will use between one third to half of the potential of the oil.

That the same for the filter as it is good for a whole year but you will not be allowed to leave it on the car more than 6 month if you want to stay under warranty.

If you don't care about the warranty, go for it and enjoy, seems to be a great combination giving great results.

Here we go again with the dino vs synthetic..

I do believe that synthetic oil does reduce wear
and extend engine life over and above dino oil.....I
do believe that the "true" 15k mile synthetic oil,
though it is the best, is not good for a catalytic
converter over time....I do believe that the best
of both worlds is the "semi-true" synthetic of
Royal Purple, that should be changed every 7500
miles for optimum performance and does not harm
catalytic converters. This also keeps your warranty
in tact. (and Royal Purple costs no more than
Mobil 1)

That said, if Mobil 1 and all the others were
changed at the proper intervals, the difference in
wear and longevity ratings between them and the
true and semi-true synthetics would be minimal...

....(IMHO....) to each his own.....if you are still
not sure, do what Squid did, get it tested...
