Mobil1 is STILL a great synthetic oil....and is probably all you

where there are superior true synthetics out there for you to

in my wifes Acura....not sure what I will end up putting in my
Rogue?

you did notice that Amzoil was stated to be the best of
both worlds....best for the converter, best for the motor...

I personally don't feel Amsoil is worth the extra $ and that's why I don't use it. But I also don't argue against it which doesn't mean I agree it's better it just means I don't feel it's worth the time to argue about it which is probably how the other oil makers see it.

I mean heck, there are other forums out there that tout they are the best and most prestigious, have more info, etc, and just because I don't argue the point isn't an admission that what they write is true. The same goes with the vehicles I own, the TV I watch and the jeans I wear. I'm just thankful to have a choice.

mind.....use whatever, I was just showing you that it
was out there..... I agree, beauty is in the eye of the
beholder, definitely not anything to argue about.

Oh no, I wasn't insinuating you were but there are those who do. In the past I've asked people who supposedly used Amsoil to produce oil analysis of how the oil was doing in our Titans and not one did so I grew bored. I have a 56 Chevy Pickup, a 72 Toyota Land Cruiser and a 82 Corvette that all have the original engines and have had nothing but cheap 10W30 Castrol and Fram oil/air filters used on them which makes me think maintenance practices mean more then the products you use. (Everyone Knows that Fram oil filters suck right?)

"maintenance practices mean more then the products you use"

...truer words were never spoken!!

my dad was a mechanic and ran a Mobil station for over
20 years......the one thing that he drilled in to my head
was..." if you keep clean oil in it, you'll never have a
major problem...just change the oil " . This has held
true all my life! Synthetic or dino, just change it
regularly...good 'ol dad!

...ok....no snickering now.....

Another 1k miles and I'll have 3k on my Rogue, it only took
me 6 months to get to 2k miles... Anyway, I bit the bullitt
and order 5qts of Amsoil 5w30, and their best oil filter so I
will be ready to change the oil/filter at the 3k mark.

They state that this oil and filter are then good for 25k
miles of normal use before changing....I can't see me
pushing it that far, but, I may shoot for the 15k mark, we'll
see how far I get before I get a guilty conscience, get
bored for something to do, or, the oil gets really black....
The only way for this to pay for itself is by obtaining the
extended service time frame.

Heres the kicker..$67.43 for oil, filter, and shipping, ouch!
But, if I go the 15k miles, its no more expensive than dino
oil.

So are you going to do an Oil analysis after around 7000 to make sure the TBN and mineral deposits are still at safe limits before you go past the warrenty limit of 7,500 miles. I would hate to see something happen to your engine and them blame you.

Heck Squid.....as adament and ocd as I am on having
clean oil....I doubt that I make it to 7500 before
changing.....and I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever
that the Amsoil performs flawlessly for at least the 7500
miles. Its cleaning properties, etc., are at least as good
as Mobil1 and the others...of that I have no doubt. To
say otherwise would only be speculation....I have yet to
read anything negative on the quality and reliability of
their oil, and you said you hadn't either..

There was a group of High performance car builders that I
was friendly with in Georgia and they were conviced that
Amsoil was the only way to go......I'll take my chances.

Now Squid, don't be taking this a slam on your Mobil1, thats
good oil too....just a matter of preference, different strokes
for different folks.....

One added note...in the 70's, I sold Amsoil....this product
has been around since the 70's, they were the first...don't
you logically think that by now, if their oil would cause, or
would have caused reliability problems that their products
would carry that poor reputation? ...and they don't, go
figure...
