| I purchased a Nissan 2008 Rogue SL FWD about a month ago. I noticed soon afterwards that when you sustain a cruising speed (really noticeable between 40 - 60 km) and then accelerate slowly to maintain that speed (rpms around 1100) there is a low grumbling noise that comes from the engine and remains there till you stop accelerating. You can get the same noise if you are in a stopped position and press the accelerator a bit. I took it back to the dealer who said they found nothing wrong. After much prodding, the service manager took it for a ride and yes, felt the vibration. They contacted "service central" and was told that this is a CHARACTERISTIC of the vehicle. The dealer says contact Nissan. Contacted Nissan Canada but they will not intervene unless the dealer says that there is a problem. Oh the service manager where I bought the vehicle, gave me a unique solution - use the shift paddles to shift down a gear and rev up the motor to a higher rpm so you don't hear the engine growl. Has anyone else experienced this vibration or is it just my vehicle? Check out this article at the New York Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/09/au...ewanted=1&_r=1 |

| vibration.. I'm with Sputnik on this one....I've noticed it too, but, its not severe. I also relate this to the CVT transmission(belts)....it kinda reminds me of when someone tries to accelerate a car with a manual transmission while going too slow from too high a gear....kinda chugs, (in our case it vibrates a little)?? I'm watching it, but I'm really not too worried about it.....yet. (I, also, only have 1300 miles on my car...when I get to 5k, I will re-assess to verify that it hasn't gotten any worse...and if it hasn't, that would indicate that it would be more of a characteristic of the CVT, and not an actual problem.)

| I haven't had this problem but I have had an intermittent rattling noise at start up 6 months into buying my Rogue. I took it in when the noise was steady and the dealership changed the upper exh shield. When the noise came back a few months later, I took it in again and they replaced the heat shield to the catalast converter. The car only had a little over 7,000 on it by then. I have been dealing with this for over a year and have taken the car in 5 times about the same noise. I finally went to the owner and he hooked me up with the district manager of Nissan. I took the car in and left it almost 3 days (going to the dealer before/after work and on my lunch hour) to turn the car over while the the DM was there along with the Service Manager and technician. Of course it never made the noise. It did make a tiny noise (I could live with that) but it didn't make that louder noise I kept complaining about. After I had the car for a almost a week, the DM came to my work with a technician and an audio recorder, and it FINALLY made the noise I kept telling them about. I have been told it is probably the sprocket. It makes noise because the engine oil hasn't lubricated it yet and this is normal. If the sprocket needs to be fed engine oil to lubricate it, than why is it not happening more time than not when I turn the engine over? It is an intermittent noise which concerns me. My Rogue is still under warranty but I am worried that something will happen once it is out of warranty. This issue is far from over. I told the DM that this "normal" noise getting louder was not disclosed to me when I first bought the car otherwise I would have shopped elsewhere. And shame on Nissan for allowing this to be a "normal" standard. We all work way too hard to earn our paychecks to be willing to "put up" with noise/rattles from a new vehicle. |
