| Engine Knock at Start-up/Rocker Arm Noise Has anybody experienced engine knock at start-up? It has happen three(3) times since purchasing the vehicle. Another iritation is the rocker arm noise at start-up, which eventually goes away once oil is adequately distributed to this area of the engine. |

| I've owned 2, 4 cylinder Nissan's and a V8 Titan and they all do it. Doesn't matter what time of year or what oil you use it's just one of those things that you do finally get use to.

| I Had The Same Noise, Sounds Like Dry Start Everytime The Car Sit For 15-20 Minutes. I Took It To The Dealer And The Service Writer Heard The Noise And He Was Going To Research It (check Tsb Or Recalls). |

| Yes, I get the rocker noise at start up. Which like you said goes away after a few 10-20 seconds. I have not been through a winter yet and hope it doesn't get real load as it gets colder (and older). My Rogue only has 5K miles and it's done this from day one. It's one of those things I guess I'll live with ? |

| I have had an intermittent rattling noise at start up 6 months into buying my Rogue. I took it in when the noise was steady and the dealership changed the upper exh shield. When the noise came back a few months later, I took it in again and they replaced the heat shield to the catalyst converter. The car only had a little over 7,000 on it by then. I have been dealing with this for over a year and have taken the car in 5 times about the same noise. I finally went to the owner and he hooked me up with the district manager of Nissan. I took the car in and left it almost 3 days (going to the dealer before/after work and on my lunch hour) to turn the car over while the the DM was there along with the Service Manager and technician. Of course it never made the noise. It did make a tiny noise (I could live with that) but it didn't make that louder noise I kept complaining about. After I had the car for a almost a week, the DM came to my work with a technician and an audio recorder, and it FINALLY made the noise I kept telling them about. I have been told it is probably the sprocket. It makes noise because the engine oil hasn't lubricated it yet and this is normal. If the sprocket needs to be fed engine oil to lubricate it, than why is it not happening more time than not when I turn the engine over? It is an intermittent noise which concerns me. My Rogue is still under warranty but I am worried that something will happen once it is out of warranty. This issue is far from over. I told the DM that this "normal" noise getting louder was not disclosed to me when I first bought the car otherwise I would have shopped elsewhere. And shame on Nissan for allowing this to be a "normal" standard. We all work way too hard to earn our paychecks to be willing to "put up" with noise from a new vehicle. Thoughts? Please feel free to email me at mannjana@aol.com Please put "ROGUE" in the subject line. Thank you! |

| All overhead cam engines make noise especially one with a timing chain rather than a belt, not to mention the injectors. I guess we could go back to carburetors and points and condensors?????????????Naaaaaa.............

| Jstreet, it looks like you aren't around anymore, but if you still own your Rogue it would be good to hear an update from you. I'm confused about this "sprocket" diagnosis, where exactly is this sprocket...sounds strange to me. I believe I have the same noise issue as you have and would really appreciate any new info you may have. Thanks a lot. |

| Piston slap is probably what you are hearing. My Nissan mechanic fielded this question from me the first week I had it. He said that most modern engines do that now on initial start up. The bores are now made larger to keep friction to a minimum in the interest of fuel economy. Some other notable/interesting tid bits he mentioned: Make sure your windows and sunroof are closed if you ever disconnect the battery, as they will need reprogrammed if not. In the interest of economy, your rogues alternator is not always charging, and therefore not taking energy to be turned. Apparently the steering is "powered" not by a hydraulic pump, but by a small electric motor ! |
