Car Battery

I apologize if this question has been addressed previously. I'm a proud owner of a 2009 Rogue. Shortly, I'll be leaving the country and as a result my Rogue will be parked for upwards of 6 weeks.

My question is, how likely is my car battery to discharge because of prolonged idleness? If so, is it necessary to disconnect the battery or are there some other options? Is a car mechanic required?

Thanks in advance.

Six weeks or more is a long time. Hooking up a trickle charger couldn't hurt. There's a lot of little things drawing on the battery all the time on modern cars.

down time

I teach in Italy for two months every summer, and I left my 2008 for 8 weeks without anyone using it and it started up fine, no problems. The battery was in good shape, when I left it and I made sure the GPS and other stuff were not plugged in draining anything.
