Wireless Back-up Cam

Hi,
I just installed a wireless back-up cam that I have purchased from Costco. This product will provide an additional source of safety while I am driving the car in reverse either for parking and moving out of a driveway.

Total time for the install took approx 2.5 hours of my time.

I decided to mount the monitor onto one of the air vents because there were not many other options for placement. Top of the dash and under the sun visor was an option, but I personally didn't want anything to clutter the top of the dash. Also fitting the monitor under the visor was a bit akward..

I mounted the monitor on the airvent by using 2 tie straps. Power source for the monitor came from the fuse box that located right above the hood release latch. (I'm still searching alternative methods on a cleaner wire routing for the monitor, but so far electrical tape is used to hold the wires onto the dash.).

I also had to run a trigger wire from the left rear back up light assembly to the monitor. This wire triggers the monitor to come on when the transmission is selected to reverse.

Running this wire from the rear to the front was the most time consuming. I had to remove the left back up light assembly and partially remove the rear tailgate interior cover, left upper window side cover, and upper tailgate cover. (I could have just tapped into the rear back-up light wires from under the dash, but I didn't have a wiring diagram to locate this wire. )

Routing of this wire was from the tail light assembly (located on the rear hatch), to the left rear quarter panel. (I snaked the wire using the exsisting grommets, so the wire wasn't exposed.) under the passenger and drivers door sill, to the monitor.

The rear back up cam is a wireless unit, but still had two wires that needed to be connected. The cam was mounted (a little off center to allow for access to the rear tailgate release button beneath the handle) to the back of the license plate, and the wires were routed into the tailgate though the left side license illumination lamp assembly. One wire is for the power and the other is the antenna. Power source was tapped into the reverse lamp wire. The Antenna wire was routed up into the left side of the tailgate, running parallel with the window for best possible transmission/reception.

Monitor/Cam performance:

The wireless cam performed well most of the time, but had occasional interference. ( I think a hard-wired cam would perform the best, since the extra effort of running another wire would not be much of an issue). The ocassional interference was bascally some line running horizontally on the monitor.

During daylight, the cam takes approx 5-10 seconds to adjust to lighting conditions before a clear picture appears on the screen.

At night, it is a little quicker for a clear picture to appear on the monitor.. usually less than 5 seconds.

Monitor adjustments include color and brightness/contrast. I found adjusting both of these at the middle works well for day/night operation.

Other nice options are:

USB port on the monitor for small devices that can be powered up or charged using a USB connection.

Video input: You can use this monitor as a second screen for dvd or ???

Some kind of backup assist is really nice to have on the Rogue. I didn't say a necessity, but it's certainly helpful.

While not a necessity, but a safety enhancer, It's pretty cool having video assist for backing into parking spaces. I'm happy with this setup.

My favorite part is you showing Usher feat. Young Jeezy, "Love in this Club" playing.[

Set up looks nice though, The Nissan radios are so big, on my old Nissan Maxima, I had a 7 inch touch screen LCD CD/DVD player that fit perfect, Im sure it would fit in the rouge to, and I also had a backup camera (mounted it in trunk
key hole)

Yeah, The Rogue's interior layout doesn't leave much room for add-ons. losing one vent for the monitor mount is okay, since there is adequate ventilation up front.

I have the same wireless camera and set it up a little different. I sent the rear camera wires through one of the plastic tag holders and mounted the camera under the tag. I also mounted the camera monitor to the left of the driver on the dash below the vent. Worked perfectly.

I used the power box to wire the two power leads and grounded to the bolt under the dash. The monitor is always on so I put a piece of electrical tape over the red power light. I guess if I were really ambitious I would do as you did. LOL Easy set up, with very little effort. Probably more so since I had previously installed it in the Dodge Durango.

I agree that you probably don't need a camera but I had removed it from the Durango prior to trading, and had become accustomed to using it, so I figured what the hay.
