wireless backup assist

Just got through installing a 4 sensor wireless unit. I would describe it as medium difficult. Difficult because Nissan decided to place the reversing lights on the liftgate. I've had the unit since last December. It's been too cold to fool around installing it. I really didn't expect much as it cost a total of $15 postage included and was offered on Ebay. It's a Chinese made product shipped from the factory. The instructions are surprisingly well written! Today I checked Ebay and this unit is no longer listed. The bottom line is that it works great. No blown fuses. No conflict with Bluetooth or Intellikey. I fitted the 3" led monitor low center of the dash between the power outlet and the passenger airbag light. I mean, for $15, come on. It works great. Anyone need help installing a like unit just let me know. I can tell you exactly how I did it. Did I mention it actually works?

Hi,

I am also interested by a back up sensor system (I do not want a back up camera as I already have a GPS, it wil be to much TVs on the dashboard).
I searched the internet and I found the VRPS100 from VR3, a back up parking sensor you have to stick in the rear bumper.

I supposed you have to go through more or less the same process of removing the rear bumper and the rear light assembly. Was it difficult to do it? Did you have some documentation on the Rogue to help you in the process?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I googled the vr3 site. Didn't find the unit you're looking at. It would be difficult to remove the bumper. There's foam and stuff behind the bumper. Don't see how you could insert a strip that long. You need much more information before purchasing. I would prefer something mounted on the license plate bracket as both the backup lights and the bracket are located on the liftgate and you will have to get to the wiring of the lights for activation of the sensor unit. The coverage range of the area will be compromised but installation would be much simpler. I really like mine.....but apparently it's no longer available. $15 INCLUDING SHIPPING. Unbelievable deal!!!!! Keep checking Ebay.

If you google "VR3 VRPS100" you will find it.
The first link is the website of the company (bringing you to the yahoo store).
There is a review on the amazon.com website on this product and I found it on carbeyondstore.com for 40$.

I looked at my car and the bumper seems not to be so difficult to remove (did you have to remove it to install your system?).
Anyway, I asked one of my friend who is a mechanical maniac if he can help me. If yes, I will probably give it a try. If not, I will live without it.

I did not remove the bumper. If you crawl under the bumper on the passenger side with a flashlight and on a bright sunshiney day you can pretty much see all that is behind the bumper. Go from there with your instructions on the purchased unit. Looks like removing the bumper would be a pain.

How did you wired your system from the bumper to the back up light assembly without removing the bumper?

I spent some time under the rear of my car this afternoon, and there is no so much space to get the wires. You still need to 'enter' the car somewhere to connect it to the electrical wiring of the car.

I don't see how you have done that. Could you explain me a little bit more in details what you have done to install your system?

For what I have seen from the rear bumper, it seems to have about half a dozen of bolts an half a dozen of plastic fasteners to remove to remove it, so it is not a big deal (except if I did not see everything).

Is there a way in the Nissan literature to know what to do to remove the rear bumper assembly? I am quite sure that every Nissan mechanic should have a manual or something, right?

OK Kenny.....ur... Pascakl1,
If you're a neatness freak, this might not work for you. But, having said that, from the underside of the bumper on the passenger side, with the liftgate open, looking up you can see light coming through the round hole on the vertical part of the body where the rubber bumper on the liftgate contacts the vehicle body. This round hole is on the outside of the liftgate weatherstripping. I had 4 wires(one for each of my bumper mounted sensors) that I snaked up between the bumper and car body. Staying just outside the weatherstripping, I went to just above and to left of the tail light assembly. There, near the weatherstripping, I drilled a hole big enough to get the 4 wires through. Then it is necessary to drill a same size hole horizontally from the first hole through to the trunk. Voila!! you're in. Sounds very complicated but really it isn't. And "Hardware Hank" I ain't. I used 'Gorilla Black Duct Tape' to cover the wires and hole. It's hardly noticeable unless you are really picky.

Smart move cdmuile! May be not Mistergib approved but for sure not-so-handy Pesca approved (I love 100% systeme D stuff).
For sure, for my system, I will have to remove the bumper, but my handyman gave me the thumb up, so I just need some more information on the car and I am going for it.

So now you are in, but did you have to connect your system to the back up wiring for it to function? From what do you have the energy to power it up? If it is from the car, where in the car did you plug it?

By the way, if you are tired of answering my questions, just tell me .

Questions are no problem. That's the beauty of these forums. My wireless unit has a 'black box' about the size of small paperback. I mounted this just inside the rear of the trunk on the vertical surface. The one power wire is very thin. I took it back out the entry hole and up the outside of the liftgate weatherstripping to the top where the wiring harness from the car body enters the liftgate. Using 4 thin strips of Gorilla Tape I taped the power wire to wiring harness and brought the wire down the liftback putting it under the plastic trim to the light assembly. Remember, there are 3 mounting nuts to remove the light from the liftgate. The third nut is accessed through the small panel on the underside of the liftgate under the light assembly. You will have to carefully pry the light assembly away from the gate. See the owners manual. Good luck. Of course, from there you have to CAREFULLY splice into the two wires going to the backup light. No ham-fisted tactics should be used on this last step! Definitely don't let bare wires wander about touching things. Try to separate the splices and their electrical tape by about 1 inch if possible.
