Boy do people hate change. I bet because the CVT allows the engine to rev at any speed, the noises coming from under the hood sound strange because people are use to the sound and behavior of a conventional manual and automatic transmission.

I noticed when I drove the Murano (Before the Rogue was being produced) that the gradual changes in engine note sound like a sliding transmission or a slipping clutch -- signs of trouble with a conventional transmission, but perfectly normal for a CVT. Flooring an automatic brings a slam you in the seat lurch and a sudden burst of power, where the CVT provided a smooth, rapid increase to maximum power. Even to me it made the car feel slower, but when I looked at the speedo she was scooting at a rapid pace toward 100 MPH.

Oh by the way, the CVT doesn't have a chain but a belt which makes me wonder about the author of the post above me from a different forum. If you do a google of Nissan rogue transmission replacement you know how many sites come up? This one and it's all here-say. LOL
